zzz
dr|z3d, here's an offering for plus - see warnings in commit msg - git.idk.i2p/i2p-hackers/i2p.i2p/-/merge_requests/66
dr|z3d
looks good, when are you intending to merge it into trunk?
zzz
maybe early next year? I need to back it up with a formal proposal and put it on the #ls2 agenda
dr|z3d
as much as I'd like to take it early, that's an invitation to flag all i2p+ routers :)
zzz
orignal has tossed out some pretty radical alternatives and I need to convince him they're orthoganal
zzz
up to you
zzz
there's a few ways you could go, you could hide it behind a config option, or take only the dest part not the RI part, or just test it locally
zzz
I wonder if we'd want to rekey the network, just to hide the new installs...
dr|z3d
something worth considering
dr|z3d
if everyone gets a smaller RI, then it might be worth it.
dr|z3d
what's the downside? everyone effectively becomes a new router?
dr|z3d
aka the network loses its memory.
zzz
a little code, a little hassle. Doesn't have to be fast if main goal is simply to provide some cover
dr|z3d
rollout as per ssu2, 1 in x chance of rekeying kinda deal?
zzz
yup
zzz
as we've done twice before, SHA1 -> ECDSA -> Ed25519 routers
dr|z3d
if it was ready it could be done to coincide with updates to ssu2, ie both at the same time, but I guess you need orignal's buy in first?
zzz
yup. won't be in 1.10
dr|z3d
or do you? it sounds like compressed RI's will work fine on the network as is?
zzz
its all backward compatible
dr|z3d
don't know why you don't just merge to code now then.. yolo it :)
zzz
not going to yolo over his quite persistent objections / alternatives / musings
dr|z3d
oh, orignal's not convinced yet.
zzz
I do have one yolo router out there
dr|z3d
well, you've been testing it for months, so I guess it's all looking good from where you're sitting, no?
zzz
right
dr|z3d
any noticeable perf improvements, or they're too marginal to observe?
zzz
wouldn't even know how to measure, but the calculations are in the checkin commment
dr|z3d
yeah, I guess you'd also need a sizable chunk of routers all talking compressed RI in order to get any idea of the perf benefits
zzz
streaming handshake is probably a much bigger win than RI. But the RI helps both database stores and NTCP2/SSU2 handshakes
dr|z3d
well, not seen much blowback from orignal lately, so it might be worth seeing where his thinking's at. would be good to see the feature in 2.0 :)
dr|z3d
2.0 with SSU2, optimized handshakes and RIs.. makes a rekey all the more palatable.
zzz
you're trying to convince me of a different interpretation of i2pd's stance? pls review zzz.i2p/topics/3279
dr|z3d
let's see what you're linking to there...
dr|z3d
orignal seems to be smoking an entirely different pipe..
dr|z3d
doesn't look like he's got a proposal in that pipe, either :)
