not_bob I'm getting around 350,000 hits to my hosts.txt a month!
not_bob That's not a small number.
dr|z3d !!!!!!!
not_bob That works out to about 10k a day?
dr|z3d servers' handling it all ok?
dr|z3d great.
not_bob I could double that amount and never notice the load.
not_bob Anyway, getting ready for bed and decided I'd check on how that was going.
not_bob And was like "Well, then..."
not_bob Java hits the hosts.txt file every 12 hours, right?
not_bob I'm quite sure it does.
not_bob So, that means 5000 actual users.
dr|z3d something like that.
not_bob But, not everyone just leaves it running, so it's hard to say.
dr|z3d only new installs will get the hosts link by default. otherwise, it's a manual add.
not_bob If needed I'll throw another instance of notbob online somewhere.
dr|z3d sounds like you don't.
not_bob We are at what, 44,000 routers currently?
not_bob Roughly?
dr|z3d no idea.
not_bob I think stats.i2p suggested a number like that before it went dark.
not_bob It's hard to guage realy.
not_bob Anyway, just thought I'd report my findings.
dr|z3d great stuff. well done.
Hikari eyedeekay: every GPU has very slight quirks that humans can't see but computers can, so you can actually have the GPU render a specially crafted image and then use the differences in the rendering to fingerprint individual laptops, even when you have two laptops manufactured at the same time

Hikari also if you're gonna nym up with Google, you gotta use non-fictional names, or at least pull from more obscure things like the english localization of a game like Suikoden
eyedeekay I have a lot to catch up on today and so don't want to get too drawn into a discussion of the ethics of pseudonymity, but an explanation: Using a realistic nym is what I would have done if I were distributing malware or trying to distribute a paid app without paying taxes, or something nefarious like that.
eyedeekay To my mind it was a courtesy, "here's an obviously fake name on an obviously real account with 2FA enabled and zero malicious activity."
eyedeekay Then I treat Google like a public toilet. Get in, do what I came for(Which is to release the Android app, that's what this account is for), get out.
eyedeekay In a more sensible world, I think Google would be able to see "All this account ever does is check work email and log in every quarter to upload a signed aab, let's not bother."
not_bob *nod*
not_bob eyedeekay: Did you see my stats from above on hosts.txt?
eyedeekay Yes I did, IIRC stats was getting thrown off badly by Prestium where everybody has an ephemeral routerInfo by default
not_bob I never thought of tht.
eyedeekay Prestium made it pretty much impossible to guess the network size accuratly while hot, so to speak, if stats saw a Prestium router, it would go into the chart and I think stay there
eyedeekay Driving the total up artificially for a while
not_bob Yes it would :(
eyedeekay Yeah it's a mixed blessing IMO, the churn makes network enumeration harder, but well the churn makes network enumeration harder
not_bob Both fiar points.
not_bob Anyway, I need to attend to other things.
not_bob Good luck in your tasks today!
eyedeekay You too
eyedeekay That's why stats thought it was 114k routers in the last month it was up AFAICT, and why the week-stat was so different from the month-stat
not_bob_afk Crazy, but yeah. I get it.
