dr|z3d
for the png, the bigger the map you provide the better, less chance it'll look blurry at higher resolutions.
dr|z3d
to a point, at least. 1600 is probably a good size.
zzz
I'd have to regenerate the mercator data but not a big deal
dr|z3d
1600 should give you more or less native resolution in the console at hd res (standard dpi), and with the 2 color map the filesize isn't an issue.
dr|z3d
as a general rule, downscaling good, upscaling bad.
dr|z3d
ok, -21+ uploaded. features experimental netdb world map on /netdbmap
dr|z3d
ps. you won't (yet) find it linked anywhere in the console.
dr|z3d
so it makes sense to add the legend layer to the map as an html overlay. that way you have better control over sizing, especially fonts.
dr|z3d
current js, zzz, as obfuscated as much as possible. couldn't figure out how to get rid of the eval call without breaking things, so there's an 'unsafe-eval' allow for scripts just on that page: git.skank.i2p/i2pplus/I2P.Plus/commit/df1d62f1316cc6b48fc2cc89d95e26935e658f6d#diff-7bdd4ebcb24d483b1bdc1091c79d9d7d6a8679a1
dr|z3d
*unobfuscated
zzz
nice. I just generated the 1600 mercator data, now picking a new base map
dr|z3d
got bored of two colors? :)
zzz
no, but I have to replace the 1200 one
dr|z3d
the one I sent you was 1600, remember.
zzz
yeah but I shrunk and cropped it
dr|z3d
you want it again?
zzz
no I got all of them, just have to pick and crop
dr|z3d
no, I mean the png @ 1600.
zzz
i have them
dr|z3d
ok, color me slightly confused, but if you have the image at 1600 I sent, great. shouldn't need cropping, it was already using your crop.
zzz
actually do you still have the green-on-blue png with the black country borders? I seem to have lost that one
dr|z3d
not sure I ever uploaded that as a png, and definitely not cropped to your requirements.
dr|z3d
I could generate one with borders if that's what you want to run with, will take a few minutes, working on something right now.
zzz
nah
zzz
don't know if on purpose, but all your svg maps are rotated by about 8 degrees, the left side looks to be at about 172 degrees, and there's a weird artifact on the right side at 180 thru the tip of russia
dr|z3d
rotation, unintentional, that's how cartosvg supplied the map. the artifact is also present in the svg.. if my gimp wasn't borked I'd have fixed that by now.
snex
just use the actual map of the flat earth instead of these weird projections that assume its a globe
zzz
I can't handle X offsets right now but it's an easy fix.
zzz
esthetically it's a choice of cutting through russia or picking which south pacific islands to slice in half
zzz
about -169.5 looks about optimal, down the bering strait and just to the east of Niue and Samoa
zzz
4.44 px/degree... rotate by 49 pixels...
dr|z3d
:)
zzz
except I cant figure out how to do that in gimp, so I'll take your current rotation which is 8.1 degrees off, left side at 171.9 degrees, or 36 pixels off @ 1600 wide
dr|z3d
if you're happy making mods, fine, otherwise shout and I'll tweak the map according to your rotation requirements.
zzz
I'll go with your current rotation for now, probably looks better than the line at 180 anyway, but if we do have something different than 180 we'll want to fix that artifact
dr|z3d
sure, once I've got gimp working again I'll fixup whatever's current in gitlab.
dr|z3d
we've got a similar though less noticeable artifact on the left hand side.
zzz
do you know what latitude your top border is at?
dr|z3d
no idea, sorry.
zzz
looks like about 84
dr|z3d
I took your original image, overlaid carto map, looked about right.
zzz
hmm and the bottom is about 57 which is more cropped than mine
zzz
my top crop which I've been calling 72 degrees is actually at 75 degrees
dr|z3d
how do you want to proceed? do you need another map from me?
zzz
no, I'm good, just trying to figure out the offsets after I crop this
zzz
ok here;s the best I can come up with
zzz
@ 1600x1056, you're cropped 55 px off the top and 489 off the bottom, and rotated 36 left, of the square projection
zzz
I'm going to crop another 228 off the top, for an X offset of 283 and a Y offset of 36
dr|z3d
1600x1056? where are you getting those dimensions from?
dr|z3d
the image I sent you was 1600x848.
zzz
that's mercator6.svg @ 1600
dr|z3d
yeah, you missed the part where I mentioned I had to crop the image as per your source image and jigsaw it back together.
dr|z3d
no wonder you're telling me my image is off :)
zzz
everything you've put on cake after g51866.png has been at the new rotation and crop points
dr|z3d
yeah, those weren't referencing your image.
zzz
right. so to take any of those as a new base map, I had to spend two hours figuring out what your x and y offsets were
dr|z3d
so you're now effectively using the cartosvg map as is?
dr|z3d
(converted to png)
zzz
I'm gonna try it. Since you and I both lost the g51866.png version that had the country borders, if I want to try country borders, I don't have a choice
dr|z3d
you had a choice. I offered to do a png for you with borders. but whatever works best, it's your show :)
dr|z3d
with all that said, if you can use the carto svg -> png as is, makes things a lot easier if you want revisions.
dr|z3d
and of course it makes it a lot easier when you decide you want to use the svg instead of the png.
zzz
well, since you're anamored with the carto version, may as well switch over, since you borked the g51866 svg so bad didn't seem like there was any going back
dr|z3d
sounds like a plan. you get the tooltips and extra stuff thrown in when you convert over to svg.
zzz
gimp doesn't know about your svg-css-foo, land is white
zzz
the cook islands may want a word with you about where you put the legend ))
zzz
was having trouble making it line up but found a constant I hadn't updated
zzz
if anything is even a little bit off, Taiwan is in the water
dr|z3d
gimp won't get the css, no.
dr|z3d
if you want a colored svg that you can bring into gimp, shout. if you want borders with it, shout.
dr|z3d
if you've modified the svg in any way, send that over.
zzz
thx, done for now, just left it white, got everything straightened out @ 1600 and pushed to the MR
dr|z3d
ok
cumlord
Ooo, map looks good
cumlord
No gridline magic
dr|z3d
cumlord: which map, where? :)
dr|z3d
also, gridline magic?
dr|z3d
wouldn't be difficult to add gridlines, but I don't think we need them, just a distraction.
cumlord
i was poking around /netdbmap on the console
dr|z3d
gotcha. any issues?
cumlord
and i meant with the gridlines gone, looks very nice haha.
cumlord
haven't broke it yet, i will try
dr|z3d
just adding some flags to the tooltips.

poweroff
